Day 1 - The Beginning

I arrived in Picton at midnight, and I walked the 1km to the YHA villa where I had a room booked. When I arrived I put my body straight into bed hoping to get up early and start the trail. To my surprise, my body did not want to go to sleep. The room was humid and sweaty, and the man in the bunk below me snored like a drunken sailor. I decided to leave the room and sleep on a couch in the hostel lobby. I laid down and closed my eyes, and as I shifted to find comfort something nicked me. I felt around my butt and discovered a large piece of glass. Then I felt a hole through my pants, and also my underwear, and when I brought my hand back to my vision it was covered in an uncomfortable amount of blood. I quickly ran back into my hostel room, grabbed my first aid kit and went straight to the showers to clean myself up. There was a large deep cut on the upper side of my ass so I gauzed and bandaged it up and went right back to sleep.
When I awoke - at 6am - I was pleased to see mitosis has set in and the cut had closed. I was wide awake so I got a move on and started the day. Breakfast, food supplies, and by 9am I set off from Picton to Ships Cove. On my taxi to the trail start the world's smallest penguin came next to our boat, I saw a pod of dolphins, seals, jelly fish and I even got to see a really rare bird called a king shag. The sun was shining and I felt ready to start my long walk.
It was an easy 3km from Ships Cove to Resolution Bay where I set up camp just in time to miss the rain. My new Zpacks Duplex tent was amazing. It kept me comfortable and dry, and was big enough for me to spread out all my gear and food in my pack. I took a small nap around 2pm and finally had a day to relax.
Later on in the evening a older fellow named Kim came and joined me at the campground. We chatted for a bit about the TA and gear on the trail. He was impressed with my tent and had all sorts of questions about it.
I'm looking forward to getting a good rest tonight. Tomorrow will be a 20km+ day and I already know my body is going to hate me by the end of it. Gotta love getting your hiking legs back...
